Being a Mom, a wife and keeping our careers (at home or whatever crafts, arts and things that occupies us and our time) is really a multi-tasking job and requires a real skill only US can manage.
How about staying at home full time and earn more than those who goes to work regularly? And while you do this, you maintain to keep your role as a wife and a mom full time. That is the more balanced life. You will no longer experience the hassles of commuting, traffic, falling in line, getting up early, going home late . . .
It's never too late. We used to have our Corporate careers and it's time to go back and do what we are best doing at - writing, proofreading, copy writing, sales / selling, marketing, teaching, fashion, paralegal, paramedics etc. And the most beautiful thing is, we can work in the comforts of our homes and be able to take care of the needs of our kids and our hubbies.

You get to tap the skills you used to have, meet alot of people from all parts of the world, get to know more of the latest applications and technology. You will also be able to learn how to do simple programming and software development ;)
